Imam behind 9/11 mosque Obama’s representative for the interests of the United States abroad?

Breaking NewsImam's globe-hopping on taxpayer dime 'unconscionable'

'He's not supporting the policy of the United States'

Officials with a law firm that fights for the protection of constitutional and civil rights say the federal government's choice of the Muslim cleric proposing a mosque near Ground Zero in New York to represent the United States overseas is "unconscionable."

Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice says it's entirely inappropriate for the U.S. to allow Feisal Abdul Rauf to travel as an official government representative.

"He will not call Hamas a terrorist organization. He's representing now the interests of the United States abroad and he's not supporting the policy of the United States which has listed Hamas as a terrorist organization," Sekulow said.

Listen to an interview with Jay Sekulow:

"He's on the board of directors of an organization whose co-founder has made some of the most virulently anti-Semitic statements. He doesn't condemn those either. The idea that this guy is now selected by the State Department to represent the interests of the United States is unconscionable," Sekulow said.

The New York Post is reporting that Arab media outlets say Rauf also will be fundraising for the Ground Zero mosque.
